Racines Rebelles — "rebel roots" — is a micro-domaine on the slopes of the Luxembourgish Moselle, founded in 2020 by Kaja Kohv, an Estonian sommelier who gathered her winemaking experience in Australia before settling in Luxembourg. She started with 0.8 hectares of rented vines and no family history in wine. The domaine now covers 2.5 hectares.
The vineyards sit on steep slopes above the river, planted with old vines — some over 40 years — across eight varieties: Elbling, Pinot Blanc, Auxerrois, Rivaner, Riesling, Pinot Noir, St. Laurent, Pinot Gris. Soils are limestone and ancient gypsum, Jurassic seabed geology that runs through the northern part of the valley. All work is done by hand, with cover crops, medicinal plants, and fruit trees integrated into the vineyard rows.
In the cellar, intervention is kept to a minimum. Wines spend 12 months on the lees in old oak barrels, unfiltered, with little to no added sulphur. The result is cool-climate wines with a clear mineral backbone — precise, low in alcohol, and unmistakably of this particular stretch of river.
